In which we announce Season 3 of History Unwritten: Ayutthaya!
The Thai kingdom of Ayutthaya was an early modern commercial powerhouse. As a major trade entrepot between India, China, Japan and Southeast Asia, the city grew rich and powerful by dominating trade between other major Asian civilizations. European visitors to the city ranked it alongside the Mughals and Ming as one of Asia’s premier powers, and at least one scholar has argued the city of Ayutthaya was the world’s largest in 1700.
Today we discuss a little bit of the “Why?” of this choice, and a little bit of a sneak peek at our future as well.
